I still haven't smoked. It's been about a week now. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I received a lot of awesome answers so I'm putting it to a vote. Thanks again!

Cold turkey is the way to go.

I found (after 29 years as a smoker) that the first 5 days are the roughest. So you're almost there. Don't waste what you've been through by giving in now. If you have any smokes around the house, put them down the garbage disposal.

For several years after I quit, I still had cravings, then it went the other way and if somebody smoked around me It was very offensive. Things evened out after about 10 years. Haven't had a smoke for 26 years, but I'm still an addict. If I had one smoke, I know I'd be back to my old habits within a week.

Good luck.

Congratulations! You're on your way to being a healthy ex-smoker. For now you need to keep busy. Any sports or exercise will help, or anything that keeps your hands so busy that you can't reach for a ciggie.

Just using the computer and watching TV will make it harder. Go out to a non-smoking club or restaurant. Pamper yourself with the money you're not spending on smokes! If all else fails, clean the house - anything that keeps you physically and mentally busy is good.

It may never be really easy for you, but you're past the worst of the worst. Keep it up! Your grandkids will enjoy knowing you someday. My daughter never knew her grandfather because he smoked himself to death before she was born.

Good luck!

Nothing will. I have not had one for 11 months and I still think about it 23.99999 hours each day. Use the patch to get by the physical cravings. It is so expensive I cut it in half - started with # 2 and quit using it after a total of 20 days. They want us to quit but any good assistance costs twice as much as a carton of cigarettes _ greed. You can and will make it though if you really want too. I quit only because of the cost. I could no longer justify their greed to myself as everyone wanted a cut of the profit.

You probaly have something in your mouth, toothpicks, gum right? it will ease some pressure, but not alot-you need to remember that your body craves nicotine just like water or air now.
