I was around 10 weeks pregnant when I started bleeding lightly. I went to the ER and they sent me home for an ultrasound . The ultrasound confirmed I was having an ongoing miscarriage. Its been 5 days since the ultrasound and I am only bleeding lightly and it stops and starts. I have still not passed any clots or tissue nor had severe pain. I am suffering severe nausea but no other signs of infection and I still have all my pregnancy symptoms. Should I go back to the ER to get a D & C or just wait for it all to pass naturally?

The same thing happened to me Christmas Eve 2001. I saw my Dr. a couple days after I started to bleed and the ultrasound confirmed that the fetus was trying to misscarry. He suggested waiting a few days to see if it would expell on its own or if a D&C was necessary. Like you I waited a week and finally the doc said that that was long enough and any longer could be dangerous. They put me to sleep and shortley after everything was over. I felt no pain from the surgery, just emptiness. I gave birth to my 3rd child almost exactly a year later. Definitely contact your doctor asap. Good luck to you.

that dont make sence if you havent passed any clotts or at least one big one then you havent lost the baby. i would see about a second oppinion. if you was going to miscarry it would usually show in your blood work cause your hcg hormone level drops. ive had a miscarrige and i was 10 wks when i lost it. if they can detect a heart beat your baby is still alive and everything. and usually the cervix is open when they do a cervix check and they then tell you your going to have a miscarrige cause the cervix is open when it should be closed. and the ultra sound only checks the baby and placenta and the fluid around it making sure the babys developing as it should. and usually the er wont give you an ultra sound unless you are in lot of pain. then they will to check the baby. because insurance wont cover unless your medically refered by a doctor. and when i miscarried mine i didnt have any signs of infection. i just started spotting then the bleeding got heavy i was cramping lost the baby bleed for 6 wks after. they sent you home for an ultra sound? and the person that does the ultra sound cant give you any information about it your doctor would. dont know

I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks and didn't need a d&c or those meds that will cause you to finish passing the pregnancy.
My sister though was 7 weeks pregnant and they gave her those meds to pass it. I believe they were called cyotec (not sure though)

I would go back to the doctor though if i were you. Sorry for your loss

Go see your doctor. An internal exam needs to be done to make sure that all the discarded tissued has passed. If it hasn't and you don't do anything, you could be headed for trouble. Always better to be safe.

you should be going to see your regular doctor. they'll check your hcg levels and if they don't drop to 0 in a certain amount of time (numbers should halve every few days) then they will schedule you for another ultrasound and that will determine whether you need a d and c or not.

You need to get checked again by an OBGYN. They will tell you.
