Freshman retention rate is the percentage of students who will be continuing on to their sophomore year.
This rate will show you how many students decide to transfer to another school or drop out all together. The higher the freshman retention rate, the better!

it tells you how many members of any given freshman class returns to that same school for their sophomore year.
