I am 9 weeks pregnant with my first baby. :)

For several weeks I have had major itching all over my stomach, lower back, and ankles. There is no rash and its so bad that when I wake up I am immediately itching my ankles.

Its almost feels like an allergic reaction, but I am not taking anything new and I never had this happen before I got pregnant.

Also, my face is really dry everyday like never before. My baby is doing great and the OB kind of blew off my skin problems.

Is it normal to have my skin be itchy and dry while pregnant?

It's extrememly normal
alot of pregnant women itch
you can take an antihistamine (ask the chemist just incase to make sure the one you want is safe for baby)
you can also get creams which will not harm your baby because they only go as deep as the skin and only a tiny amount gets into your blood stream
if you have an extreme case you may require a pill I think that has steriods in it

mostly just try and keep moisturised
take cool showers/baths for a short amount of time
dont use soap (dries out the skin)
there are a number of body and hand wash products out there that don't have soap in them (usually from the chemist, but you may find a couple at the grocery store)

Its normal - i remember having the same issues as you in early pregnancy - always scratching! Started to worry i had fleas or something! lol.

Its apparently just your skin staring to stretch which causes the itchiness. I have found cocoa butter to be of great relief - i lather that on every morning and on my stomach at night and i don't itch half as much! It really helps soothe the skin!

Congrats and best of luck

Oh - i'm 27wks - while the itchiness was intense in the first trimester and part of the second trimester now that i apply lotion religiously each day, its really not to often that i'll be itchy anymore.

Yep. I'm still all itchy and kinda broke out into a rash and I'm 25 weeks. But when I went to the Dr. about it they did a blood test to check something with my Liver. The Dr. told me that sometimes your liver doesn't absorb a chemical in your body that its suppose to while your pregnant and it will cause your skin to break out and itch and become really dry. But its safe to take Benadryl and it really helps with the itching. Or there is always the Benadryl cream if you aren't comfortable with taking medication.

Yes everyone is different though some women may have really oily skin while pregnant just make sure you are drinking enough water and use cocoa butter for your dry skin, it will also help with stretch marks.

Yes it is normal. I use cetephil, because it is very mild. My OB told me that if I itch too much, especially in my stomach regions, it may increase stretch marks. Hope this helps!
