for instance, Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert, James Brown...etc. I mean they were really talented before they passed and had a lot of fans but why do a lot more people have more love for them now just because they passed on?

Because the celebrity has achieved such greatness and people realize that once they are gone there will never be anyone else exactly like that person.

By treasuring the celebrity's image, it keeps them "alive" forever. At least in the fan's minds.

So they'll be remembered on the values that they did as well as their legends, For example James Brown,Luther Vandross. It's for their values I guess.

Maybe because it's the realization of never getting to see one of these great artists alive ever again. People come together in times of death, so you tend to see a lot of people coming out and then you realize, wow, they had a lot of fans. And sometimes they just tend to get forgotten about, you know, out of sight, out mind and then when they die they're immediately back in the limelight, which makes people remember them.
