Note: They claim 40,000 gods inhabit the island, which I don't believe in, so why would a rock be cursed.

I am a victim of this, and I can tell you,I didn't believe it,but I took a couple of rocks from Mt.Palai and didn't even know anything about the curse. We were stuck at the airport on the Big Island. And we stayed stuck from about 5pm until 10:30pm and finally someone came out from the airport and ask if anybody had any of those rocks.Well I said I got some rocks off the volcano, and they said take them as far away from the airport as possible and throw towards Mt.Palai.I did. They ask me if I had read the signs,I said what signs?Well within 10mins.after I got rid of the rocks they announced that our plane was on the way, from the other island.I do not know if all that is true, but it worked for me.The lady told me I better be glad I didn't take them home. The curse is that anyone who takes away from the island will be cursed,,,,???Peace!!!

An interesting question to say the least. The rational side of me says it's a load of crud. A rock is a rock, and has no effect on the probability of anything in your life. Anyway when I visited Oahu, the locals seemed a little more supertitious then I was. They talked about mana and stuff like that and how doing this or that would affect your luck. Hey ya know what, do an experiment, take 100 bucks to Vegas and gamble it away (see how long it takes). Then go take a lava rock from Hawaii and go back to Vegas and see if you lose your $100 faster or slower then before.

Yes, they do bring bad luck. Some of my friends brought home some rocks just for fun and within weeks they got rid of the rocks because they had the most amazing run of bad luck - each and every one of them who brought the rocks.

Yes, and if you try to return the rocks to break the curse, you have to return them to the same area you got them from. Otherwise the correct deity won't get them back and nullify the curse for you.

Cuz if everyone took some, there would be none left, and there would be no more tourists. But seriously, I don't know for a fact, but my bet is that they thought volcanoes were gods, or the gods' power, so taking a volcano rock would be like taking a piece of their god.

Yes it is true. Just like the episode of the Brady Bunch when they took the little rock vodoo statue when vacationing in Hawaii.

It's wrong to take them cursed or not. They are there for everyone to enjoy not to collect. If you are caught they will fine you. It's against the law.

They're only "cursed" if you believe they are. The power is in the belief. If you refuse to believe, nothing happens.
