If you wanted to teach a Middle School/High School Social Studies Class having to do with modern conflicts or wars (Not like Rome but probably starting around the Revolution through WWII); what kind of degree would you consider? (Associates OR Bachelors, please specify)

I don't think it varies much from state to state, but in MA you HAVE TO have a bachelor's degree and be working on a master's. The degree could be in Teaching in History, but it's nice to have a double major...that coupled with another type of history or something like that.

In the U.S., you will need a Bachelors in History with whatever certification your state requires.

What you're interested sounds like a Modern world history. Or something like the 8th grade class in which I cadet teach, which is Post-Revolution to Reconstruction.

The actual certification requirements vary from State to State, but you'll need at least the Bachelor's Degree for most. If you check with your State's Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), you'll be able to find out the exact certification requirements.

In CT you have to have a bachelors degree in history. Also you have to be working on your masters degree a few years after you become a teacher. I would major in history and minor in education. You'll have to learn all of history to become a teacher though, and in your early years of teaching it is not definite that you'll teach modern history. New Teachers usually do not get to choose what classes they teach.
