I have looked and looked on the internet but can't find the answer but I know there is one as my 1st child was terrible for turning blue when he had wind. The midwife explained but I can't remember! It was the strangest thing watching it disappear when he had a great rift! It's obviously to do with the amount of air going down with the milk, but whether it's going into the system too fast to process properly therefore the oxygen not getting through the system efficiently enough I don't know, but that's as much as I can think about!

Hi there

I think that it might not even be wind cos when I was a baby I used to go blue in the face too cos I struggled to breath as I had a heart defect and the one day I was blue in my whole face and had to go to the hospital and had heart surgery so if I were you Id get him or her checked out or try laying him or her on their tummy and rub their back to pass winds it normally works well if he passes winds and still looks blue you know there is something more wrong than just a wind but Id still get the baby checked by a doctor hope I havent stressed you out its not my intention but rather be safe than sorry good luck! :)

I have a friend whos baby keeps going blue around his mouth when he has wind but it started getting a bit more noticeable, so she checked it out with the doctor and he gave her some medicine for him.
So get it checked out with doctor if it worries you too much.
Hope this helps sweet.:)

Do not panic!

I take it your meaning just a light blue line around the lips? Its just a sign he needs winding. I don't know why it happens but I mind my midwife telling me about it.

Obviously if your babies lips turn blue there might be something wrong.

When your baby strains to pass gas he is holding his breath as anyone else would. The lips and fingernail beds are the first places to look on a baby for signs that he is not getting enough oxygen. If that is the only time you notice the bluing of the lips, no need to panic. But if he doesn't grow out of it or it happens more often or, using your "Mommy Sense", something just doesn't seem right, then take him to the doctor.

Don't worry they all do that, it's like a little sign for us to wind them, nothing to worry about. if his actual lips go blue though, that is a serious issue and requires 999 attention.

How old is your baby? When was the last time he was at the doctors? That is a sign of lack of oxygen.I know my baby is what they call blue,he has a heart defect.I would highly suggest you take him to the doctors and have them check is oxygen saturation levels.I would not put this off.Good luck.

Don't know but they all seem to - all 3 of mine did and I have yet to see a baby that doesn't - at least you can tell what the problem is when they are grouchy
