An Ipod is a brand name for an MP3 player. An MP3 player is just a device that allows you to play music on.

An iPod is a PROPRIETARY music player. The Apple iPod was designed to play a music format that it and only it can play (or a computer with iTunes loaded on it). When you purchase a song from Apple iTunes, it is in a format that only other Apple products can play. MP3's are a universal format that virtually all other players can handle.
If you buy an iTunes song and try to play it on a standard MP3 device, it won't work. You CAN convert the iTunes track to MP3 but its a loophole and Apple did not intend this- try it from the menu features and you will get an error message. Likewise, a single track can only be played on a limited number of devices (5, I believe) before you have to re-purchase the track.
A complete and total scam, if you ask me.
C'mon you 'researchers'- get it right....

Why don't people ever do research? An iPod IS an MP3 player. An MP3 player is essentially any device that plays digital music. The iPod is simply more popular than competing products, which are usually better.

.mp3 player is a generic term for any portable digital music player. .mp3 is the most common format for digital music. iPod is the brand name for Apple's line of .mp3 players. They are by far the most popular, selling more than all other models of .mp3 players combined. There's a reason for that. Besides looking good, they sound good, and they are dead simple to use. Some other .mp3 players almost need rocket scientists to operate them.
