Reason I ask is because I sold my broken 360 and I was going to save that money to buy the later shipments. Just hoping that they have already fixed the heat and hardware problems that were closely associated with the system when they first came out.

What problems? I bought mine a few weeks ago and no problems so far. Play for 3 hours straight without wrecking your console :)

I got a 360 over the summer and it works perfect and I haven't had a single problem. Except for the ring of death once (ring of red lights) but just unplugged the power cords and worked like new again. It only happened once but it's great!

edit: 3 hours? i play like 10+

Got mine in November. Seems to be ok. I heard from someone they sorted out the ones that are coming out now, but that in future they may be going with a faster chip that is smaller and runs cooler too. Have to keep an eye on that though.
