We recovering alcoholics are 'anonymous' from our bosses, our neighbors, our families. Back when AA started, even though everyone around the acloholic knew of his problems, actually admitting it, out loud, shocked people. The alcoholic would be shunned.
In the AA meeting, we are safe and secure, knowing that no one will go blabbing about us outside of the meeing. That is where anonymity comes in. If you are interested in AA, every phone book in the US has a listing. The internet is also a valuable resource. Good Luck...

You do not give your last name, and nobody in the meeting will ever mention seeing you there.
Some people come and don't give their name or say they are alcoholic, either because they're not (they're just observing) or because they don't think they are or don't want to admit it. This is also acceptable in the meeting.
