My sister just threw a swim/slumber party for my daughter at the Embassy Suites out near SFO. With the room rental, those who come to the party have access to the indoor heated swimming pool. Towels are available for the swimmers but there has to be one adult for every 5 children under the age 18 swimming. while the kids were swimming my mom and sister decorated the hotel room and brought up the food we had prepared (chicken nuggets, Speghetti, salad and french bread with gallons of fruit punch). That was the menu my daughter requested. As the evening wore down only the selected 5 girls that my daughter chose, spent the night in the room. They played games and watched movies. The room has a playstation and television with movies that you can order. You can also bring your own DVD player to conect for movies the children bring. In the morning the 5 girls were given breakfast compliments of the hotel. They went down to the main floor and the chefs were prepering pancakes, omlets, and all kinds of breakfast foods were available.

My niece had her party there as well and she chose chinese food so my sister went to their favorite restaurant and had them create large trays of Fried Rice, Chow Mein, Beef and Broccoli and Egg Rolls with a sweet and sour dip.

So it would be up to you to decide who stays, and what food will be served. There is an Albertson's not too far away and you can order and pick up the Birthday Cake there. I wouldn't suggest Ice Cream because even though there is a refridgerator in the room, it's really small and there would be no room for ice cream, unless it was eaten right away.

You can look into the Metreon. They have cyber bowling near their party space that also has the arcade. And it's a movie theater. Across the street is ice skating, a regualr bowling alley (Justin Timberlake played there), and a museum where the kids will love making their own music video and clay animation. Thats Zeum. They host birthday parties that feature both of those things.

Not to knock Cal Academy or the Exploratorium, but some of their parties are more appropriate for the younger crowd.

I would personally recomment the Exploratorium. Lots of fun things to do there, and the grown-ups might just have some fun, too!

You might also try the Tech Museum of Innovation. The California Academy of Sciences appears to allow group parties for members. A family membership costs $60 for one year.
