Public welfare if anything. The only welfare you should be concerned about is Corporate welfare.

My brother has a wife, 3 kids, a house, cat, dog..etc. Our hiring hall has about a third of it's members out of work here in Detroit. You sign the list now and your looking at being off 1 year solid if not more. Unemployment is 26 weeks (no extentions thanks to our pubs). If your union, a non-union employer will not hire you because they fear that you will "salt" their shop and try and organize their workers. You've trained for 5 years to do what you do.

He applied for benefits and got some food stamps--what seems to be the problem.

The war is actually an occupation with an extra added bonus of a proxy war from Iran and Syria.
