ok i got this homework and i'm totally stuck... it says divide the word into parts but the example they give make it seem like they're dividing it by syllables-- but i know thats not what im supposed to do.
Directions: Divide each of the following words into its prefix, root, and suffix. Some of the words may lack a prefix, a suffix, or both. The first word has been done for you.

Word --.--.-- prefix --- root --- suffix
1.reporter-----> re | port | er
2.overrule
3.contraction
4.reversal
5.contained
6.interrupt
7.scribble
8.inducting
9.despise
+AND MANY MORE! ahh.. :( but you get the point. Any help with these few words at all.... i just dont get it. Thank You.

What you have to do is look at the WORD not the SYLLABLES to determine what is the root, if there is a prefix or suffix.

2. overrule---> over I rule
3. contraction---> con I tract I ion
4. reversal----> re I vers(e) I al
5.contained----> contain I ed

Just look... when you overrule you rule over
Think if it that way instead of syllables, that will just get you confused. Sometimes in the back of dictionaries they have lists of prefixes and suffixes. Maybe that will help you.

good luck
