I believe this is it:
4/5*5/8 equals 20/40 then you times by 2/1 (same as dividing by 1/2) and the answer is 40/40 which simplifies to 1...

4/5*5/8
=1/2
1/2 divided by 1/2 is the same as 1/2 *2/1
the answer is.....1

4/5 * 5/8 = 20/40 = 1/2
1/2 / 1/2 = 2/2 = 1

To multiply two fractions together, you just multiply their numerators together and put that over the product of their denominators. So:

4/5 * 5/8 = (4*5)/(5*8) = 20/40 = 1/2

Divide 1/2 by 1/2 and you get 1 (as you always get when you divide a number by itself).

2007-01-17 09:45:54 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

4/5*5/8=20/40=1/2 = (4/5)*(5/8)=(1/2)
1/2 / 1/2 = 1

division and multiplication are equivalent in the order of operations, so it's just reading it left to right

4/5 * 5/8: just times the top and bottom together so 20/40.

Divide 20/40, or 1/2 by 1/2 is just 1

Just do it step by step and remember division is just multiplying the other fraction upside down. e.g. 1/(1/2) ie also 1* 2

Always do parenthesis first when possible...When you multiply fractions multiply across

4*5 = 20 over 5*8 = 40

So we have 20/40 / 1/2

When dividing fractions you multiply the recipricol so...

20/40 * 2/1

Again multiply across...

20 * 2 = 40 over 40 * 1 = 40

40/40 When you simplify (or divide) = 1

((4/5)*(5/8))/1/2

Cancel out the 5:
4/1*1/8=1/2

Flip the 1/2 fraction over and multiply it:
1/2*2/1

Cancel out the 2:
1/1*1/1=1

I hope this helps and good luck with your class!

order of operations first
4 / 5 * 5/ 8 = 1/2
now we have (1 / 2) / (1 / 2)

when we're dividing fractions, we flip the fraction we're dividing by and multiply.
so...
1 / 2 * 2 / 1 = 1
