if a psychiatrist is self-employed, they really don't have any benefits -- they'll have to pay for their own insurance, pay to rent their office, pay for membership in any professional societies they belong to, etc.

if a psychiatrist is employed by a hospital or another clinic, they would receive the same benefits as any similarly employed doctor

Depends on whether self-employed or working for state or city. Self employed, well you know the answer. Check with your state or city HR dept.
