4 years of undergrad (typically)
4 years of optometry school

Edit: The two answers below me are WRONG. Optometrists are not MD's. They don't go to med school, they go to Optometry school. It's different. Just like dentists aren't MDs, pharmacists aren't MDs, etc. Dentists go to dental school, pharmacists go to pharmacy school, and optometrists go to optometry school. Doctors (MDs) go to medical school.

Optometrists are OD's. Stands for Doctor of Optometry.

MDs that deal with the eyes are called opthalmologists. They are different from optometrists, who typically just fit you for glasses or contacts. Opthalmologists lean more towards surgery and things like that.

An Optometrist is a medical doctor, Doctor of Optometry (M.D.), so you'll definitely need a 4 year Bachelors Degree plus med school.

an optometrist is a medical doctor so you'll have to do your undergrad and then apply to/get into a medical school
