I know there is a saying about what it could be based on the heart rate. I just went to 17 week apt and it was 140, Also I go next week for my first Ultra sound will they be able to tell what it is? And for those who have gone, What should i expect? It says to have full bladder, is there anything else i should know?

They say the higher the heart rate the better chance of it being a girl but this is not always a true fact.

They usually say the lower the heartbeat then it is a boy and the higher it is a girl. That is not true all the time though. This pregnancy the baby's heartbeat was high until later in pregnancy and I thought it was gonna be a girl but it is a boy. And to answer the other question yes they should be able to tell you next week what you are having, I was 18 1/2 weeks when they told me. Good luck!

They should be able to tell you the sex of the baby at 18 weeks. Hopefully he/she cooperates for ya! The full bladder....my advise, drink all you are suppose to drink like 20 mins before you are suppose to have it drank (i.e drink 1 quart by 10am, drink it all at like 9:40) I had the hardest time laying there for 30 minutes because i had to urinate sooo badly it hurt!!! Be prepared for that part! But it is sooooo exciting! You see the babies heart beating, its amazing everything you can see, and watch the baby move. Its really awesome. My ultrasound tech said my baby peed! I laughed so hard, it never dawned on me they urinate while in there!! As for the heartbeat, my babies at 16 weeks was 124 beats, then at 20 it was 150 beats, then at my ultrasound at 23 weeks it was 140....i have never had 2 the same, and its a boy. Good luck at the ultrasound! it will be exciting!!

They say a heart rate over 150 is girl, and under 150 is boy.

THe ultrasound is really neat.... yes you need a full bladder, then they'll tell you to go pee out 'just a little bit'.... oh, yeah right.... pregnant, and I've been holding a litre of pee for an hour and a half.

I asked to find out the gender, but my baby's legs were crossed. So I recommend boucing around a little before you go in... to wake the baby up and get it active.

Have Fun!!

it is one hell of a good experience, ultrasounds are awsome, however, they can get the sex wrong. With my first child (which was a boy) the first person who did an ulta sound said that it was a boy, then at my next one they said it was a girl. I luckily had the gut instinct that it was a boy. And the heart rate thing is not even true, babies all have about the same heart rate.

they told me over 150 was a girl and mine was 159 when i went and the ultrasound said girl..So they were right for me..but face it they have a 50/50 chance. When I went for my US they said to drink 32 oz of anything but milk an hour before you go...then i was miserable the whole time they did the US because I thougth if she pushed on my stomach with that thing any harder I was gonna pee myself. But try to relax and take your mind off the fact that you have to pee so you can enjoy seeing your baby on the screen.

They should be able to tell you the sex of you baby when you have your scan, they tell you to fill your bladder as it makes your scan pictures clearer. At this scan they check the babys heart and organs to make sure that they are all clear and are a normal size and the heart has got all its chambers.

The heartbeat thing is not true. Not even an ultrasound can be sure sometimes. Imagine our surprise when our boy turned out to be a lovely little girl.

You can't tell much at the first ultrasound. If it's a boy they might see something but if its a girl they won't say anything because they are wrong so often. Basically it's a peanut so just wait a while more.
