I have some questions concerning this common term:
What do you think being "cool" really means?
Personally, when you say that someone is cool, what are you praising in him/her?
Does being yourself really make you cool?

Haha. Unlike the first poster, I will assume you meant cool as the slang term. (Although their description gave me a chuckle.)

Cool is a relative term - It means something else to each person. In school, most people refer to the "cool" people. Usually these people have all the latest clothes, gadgets, they're good-looking, etc.

I don't like this definition of cool, even if it is the most commonly used definition. I find the "cool" people in school were always the most conceited and the most rude of all. (Excuse my generalization for they are just that - generalizations.)

For me, it's cool to be uncool. When I say someone is cool, I'm usually admiring them for doing something out of the ordinary. Something that may be frowned upon by the majority. For example, joining the chess club and beating everyone's butts. :)

I truly do believe being yourself makes you cool. People in school who are described as being cool are not themselves. They are what they think people want them to be. Popularity is a job - you work to get in and you work to stay in. Cool people have to work to STAY cool - They don't have time to be themselves.

Since there is no one else in the world that could possibly be you except for yourself, it is easy to see why being yourself is the coolest thing you could possibly do.

Whether being yourself is painting up a storm, doing some wicked skateboarding tricks or, as mentioned before, joining the chess club - it is COOL!

Besides, after high school, you're most likely never going to see these people again so why worry about being cool for them right now? :)

I tried to answer you before ,but this freakin' computer lost it.
To be cool I think is every once in a while ,standing back and looking at yourself.Realizing we don't control everything in our lives. We have bosses, banks, teachers, cars ,parents wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, oh I can go on and on,you know that,on and on. All of these ,have an affect on us .To be cool is knowing that s**t happens and going with it. To be cool is to be in control of US.To be cool is to go to bed, turn on your side, put your arm under the pillow,if that's your position and drift off peacefully.
To be cool is to hug a friend, someone you love, even a stranger, who is going through a very difficult time whether it be about their love life or a death or all that's in between,Looking them in their eyes and saying:" Time may go slow but it does heal ALL wounds. If ya need me ,a friend, I'll be there. Just give me a call".
You see, being cool is not being above or beyond the average person.
Yeah, now that I think about it, being cool is being in control. It's that easy.

Opposite of being hot headed. It means you keep your cool under all circumstances. It also means your style is cool, also under control.
