I went off of the patch due to risk of stroke and a broken bone, and have decided I don't want to go back on hormonal BC.

I have a copper IUD and I love it!

I had pretty terrible side effects on hormonal birth control and was happy to go hormone free. My first couple of periods were heavier with more cramps. But, the pain was manageable with OTC pain medication and heating pads.

Having either IUD inserted is going to be painful, but how much depends on your pain tolerance and if you've had children vaginally before.

I'm a huge fan of the copper IUD. Although there can be considerable cost up front if you're uninsured, it's actually cheaper than other types of birth control over the 10-12 years that it's effective.

My Dr had nothing good to say about the copper IUD.......I got Mirena and love it. The hormones stay localized in the uterus so they don't get into your system, like the patch or pills.

yes, skip the copper iud and get the mirena iud. less pain and probably no periods at all, otherwise very very light ones. expect heavier flow and more painful periods with the copper iud
