Yup.

Am I the only one who saw the corporate tax hike in there? And the subsequent lost jobs?

Sounds great! If you are going to ask a small business to increase payroll from $927 a week to $1305 a week, you better give them some take breaks or they will end up cutting hours to make things more affordable. Then, what good would a minimum wage increase be if businesses are cutting back hours. 30 hours at $5.15 pays the same as 20 hours at $7.25.

The article you linked us to says;
"The new House, in which Democrats hold the majority, passed the three-step minimum wage increase without adding tax help for small businesses that typically employee the greatest number of minimum wage workers.

"In the Senate, however, Democratic leaders have opted to add the tax relief to ease passage by avoiding a fight with business lobbyists and the possibility of a filibuster by Republicans"

So if you like the tax relief, than the republicans for that part.

Minimum wage. A tax on the poorest workers for the benefit of the almost as poor. If the minimum wage is supposed to help so much why not raise it to $10 an hour...why not $20? Probably because then it would be too obvious who are really the losers here - those who have minimal skills and/or those with no work history. The young, the handicapped, etc. not to mention the truly small business. Those who only have but really need just a few employees and are on a thin margin of profitability as it is. Maybe it's just like Hilary Clinton said about her universal health care plan paid for by employers - that she couldn't be held responsible for small undercapitalized businesses. I guess big bureaucracies are the only valid business model.

Tax breaks for small businesses linked to a hike in the minimum wage? Looks good to me. Hope similar give and take legislation is forthcoming on a number of issues. It might show these geeks in Washington actually want to work together.

My favorite part was that they didn't just offer the tax breaks and tack them onto the conservative debt, but instead they came up with a way to fund them (by changing the amount of CEO pay a company can claim as a write-off as well as by changing the fee for bounced checks to the IRS).

Help for the working poor, tax relief for small business, and all of it without adding a dime to the debt. Fantastic!
