I'm writing a LONG essay that needs 1500 words, and I'm not willing to count it all. Anyone know if Word does it for you?

Yes. You can get it either from the Tools menu under Word Count or under the File menu under Properties and then the Statistics tab.

It depends on the version of word you have. The great word counting tool is not in every version of MS Word.

Open Word and go to tool... if your version has word counter it will be on that menu.

Yes, go to FILE, and then properties. Then go to the tab Statistics. Or you can go to tools and then Word count.

Yes it does. On my version of microsoft office (for mac) on the bottom row, there is a little counter that say something like 203/4035, that means your cursor is on word 203 of 4035 words. It's somewhat hard to see I guess.
