In the movie "BraveHeart" William Wallace is being tortured, when he is laying on that wooden cross, and they rip off his shirt, and is gasping. Is he getting his male 'scottish pride' cut off, or are his intestines getting ripped out. The most feed back to me is that he is getting his scottish pride ripped off, but one thinks that other. Wich is right?

Both. Look up information on "drawing and quartering". After the genitalia and bowels were removed, they were usually burned in front of the person's eyes before they were beheaded and chopped up.

He was hung, drawn and quartered. It's where he is hung until almost dead, then pulled in all directions until he is alomost ripped apart, and then quartered where he is cut into 4 pieces. In that part of the film his intestines are being pulled out. It was a very common torture method and where necessary people would have been resussitated if they passed out before they were finished. The ultimeate torture. Wallace's quarters were sent to the 4 corners of Britain I think to remind everyone of the penalty of betraying the English. In case you haven't guessed - I am scottish!!

The real William Wallace was castrated, and then dissemboweled, having his innards torn out of his body, as well as amputating his limbs.

As for Braveheart....
After the exctutiating pain of being hung and stretched, William is barely hanging on. The physical pain is so extreme, the audience is not sure if his mind can hold out much longer.

Finally, the English realize that the only way they could possibly attempt to break this man's spirit, is to bring out the darkest and most painful tortures of all, castration, dissembowelment, and decapitation.

As they cut into the hero's body, he gasps for breath, for something to hold onto until he passes into heaven.

"It can all end now."

Says the English man. By this time, the crowsis begging for mercy, appauled by their cruelty and brutality.

"Just say it. Cry out, 'Mercy!' and you shall feel no more!"

And finally, Wallace reveals that he would like to speak, perhapse by the look in his eyes.

"The prisoner wishes to say a word!"

The crows goes silient, waiting for William to yell, 'mercy' and end his suffering with one quick blow to his neck.

And with his last breath, William wallace yells,

"FREEDOM!!!!"

everyone is awestruck, at this one man's courage, passion, and strength. Strength of will and heart. King Edward I dies just as he hears that voice. FInally, the torturers realize not they, nor anyone could break William Wallace's heart.

He and His men won their freedom.

Random fact! they homosexual prince of England, in real life, once he was king, it wasn't long before the people wanted some action.
He got the ultimate...pain...

They shoved a hot firepoker up his but until it came out his mouth.

I am sorry for the graphics, but there's no polite way to say that.

Anyway, I love braveheart. It inspires me, and I hope someone learned out of this.

Thanks so much! Byebye!

He is disemboweled.

Wallace is brought into the public square for execution. He is offered clemency (a quick death by beheading) in exchange for declaring himself the king’s loyal subject. He refuses and is strung up, first by his neck, then by his wrists and ankles. He is then tied to a cross and disemboweled. Refusing the taunts of the executioner to submit to the king, he yells his last word, "Freedom!". Realizing that Wallace will not be broken, even under extreme pain, the executioner orders his beheading. An instant before the axe falls, Wallace sees Murron floating among those in the crowd. The small cloth that Wallace was given by his wife as a wedding gift falls from his hand.

Both. Being hung, drawn & quartered - which is what happened to William Wallace, involved being hanged but not until the victim was dead, then having his intestines removed and his manhood cut off - and burned in front of him. The victim was then beheaded and his body cut into quarters and the pieces hung up as a warning to others.

Disemboweled at that particular moment, but both would have happened to him. According to Gibson's commentary on the DVD, Wallace would have first been relieved of his equipment, then the hanging, then the disembowelment.

he's getting streched out. I would be gasping too. He never loses his pride though, considering he would rather die.
