The suburbs of Houston have refineries and chemical plants.
When I lived there some Texan friends called Pasadena "Stinkadena"
Although suburbs Houston is also a port city with access to the Gulf.

All the oil refineries makes Houston an ugly smelly place. This gives people satisfaction their own city is no where as ugly or smelly.

I dont think it is because i mean houston is not the only city in texas with oil and its kinda boring
