I would say you need 4 things:
1. A passion for Christ
2. Talent
3. A lot of hard work
4. A little luck

I would offer to play for your or another church youth group and see what they think.

I would also find opportunities at concerts or festivals to talk to current artist on how they got in the business.

I would contact christian festivals as see how to get on one of the "side" stages many have up and coming artists playing in smaller tents. I would be great to get that type of exposure.

If you like Skillet, you'll probably like Pillar and Manic Drive. If you like Flyleaf, try out Fireflight. The Almost, Showbread, Project 86, and Emery come to mind in the Christian/screamo category. (The Almost is a side project from Underoath's drummer, Aaron Gillepsie.) Other great ones are Family Force 5, Falling Up and Anberlin.

all my friends have rock/metal bands, and they are getting pretty wel known now. if you believe in your music then thats all that matters. do a load of songs and practice them and start letting your friends hear them and get their opinions and let the word spread then try getting a few small gigs and take it from there.
good luck!

metal and christian mixed doesn't really sound right. But if that's what you want you better make some hard core lyrics for metal but also religous at the same time.

If you want, find a way to contact someone to play live.
