Teenagers believe that they are right about everything because they are stubborn. They are just starting out in the world and want to learn everything for themselves. Few teenagers will accept advice from an adult; however, most will take it from friends and peers. This is because they trust their friends: they are in the same situation as themselves. Teens have the whole world at their fingertips, and a whole lifetime to live and learn.

Those of us a bit older will remember that we've been like that to some degree but I think it's got worse from the 80's onwards. Children don't know how lucky they are these days and they show little or no respect to their elders. They get too much too soon and unfortunately it's the parents to blame...makes you wonder if a cuff around the ear was a good thing after all?

Hi I'm a teenager
I know what you mean
but to be honest we only act like that because we want to seem tougher
we know deep down when we are wrong
we mostly do it because of our pride not wanting to be wrong
we know we are and we know that are parents or older family members etc know too
but sometimes we are just having a bad day getting home from school tired and want to be left alone
and for some its because of stress and self confidence so teens try to sound more tough even tough we know deep inside that if some of the things we say to are parents etc were said to us we would be really upset
we don't mean to act this way

I think it goes back to caveman days. Back then you'd be dead by 30, so teenagers were the peak of life, and would be hunters, so they need that "no fear" mental state to go running at a Woolly mammoth with a bit of flint tied to a long stick.

Come on admit it, if you are over 25, would you try to take down a 2 ton animal with a stick???

just like 99% of the population most people learn from expierence not from watching or listening. At least b happy and realize that they have a mind of their own. they might take your advice but u will never know because st this age it is embarassing to know u r not right. Dont worry just let them know that they can always talk to u and u will not over react. keep the lines of communication open and at least when there is aproblem u will know

I have know idea why. I'm a teenager and I think I'm right all the time but I take advice too. I guess it depends on the teenager.

Because they want to learn things for themsleves. Trust me, things are a lot harder for the teenagers of today then they ever were for you. There are so many opportunities for bad chioces but they are at an age when they want to tkae charge of their own lives by makign decisions for themselves. Let them learn, even if it is the hard way. They'll need to do most of it themselves eventually.

When you were a teenager, didn't you think that you knew more than adults? That they just weren't "with it"?

There is a sign that read:

"TEENAGERS! Tired of being harrassed by your parents? ACT NOW!! Move out, get a job, pay your own way while you still know everything!"

I think some of it at least, is that it's a cover up of real insecurity; after all; they suddenly find themselves on the runway to adulthood. It's a tough ask after being a kid; and to cover up the confusion/uncertainty they ACT as though they know everything! Plus to TAKE advice would to as to admit NOT KNOWING!!!!
(And adults are supposed to know; aren't they???!!!)
