Why are 51% of American women single?

I was watching the news the other day and it said that 51% of American women are single.What made me even more appalled is that Balck women have the lowest rates of marriage. What's going here? This is making me nervous because I'm a young Black woman who wants to get married someday in the future and this scares me.

Truly I believe that women are looking for someone who is going to love them, someone to trust in, and generally just be with. But lets be real, most men , not all, just want a relationship based on sex with out any emotional ties to the women they have slept with. It will be a great day when women realize that giving your self up just for a night does not guarantee that you will have that man for life. Also to Flavious J. who was addressing why black black women cant find a man these days, you failed to mention that most black men these days do not want to date a black female. Also I grew up in a great house hold, and my Mother and Father had a great marriage, and so did all my other "black" friends. I find it very stereotypical of you to make such statements.

There are no decent men, I am afraid, but I don't care. I would rather be on my own, then marry or live with some trashy guy. The reason why black women have the lowest rates of marriage, is because most black guys are dead or in jail, also because of slavery and racial discrimination thoughout the decades of the 20th century, the black family has always been pulled apart and THEY say "we don't need compensation" and must "get over it". Makes you think, does it not.

Well If women would step up to the plate and stop waiting for the right man to ask them out, but instead go and look or get the man they want they wouldn't be single. Or I could be the fact that society is screwed up and the divorce rate is rather high. People need to seriously consider the idea of marriage and committ to actually stay together rather that get married have a few problems and divorce 6 months to a year later.

Maybe its because sometimes we forget that we love the person with. Everyone needs to try a little harder. Any Women can get any man if they have a true heart. Your mate needs to know that they are the most important thing in the world to you, they need to hear that they are the best, and that everything will be okay, even if sometimes it wont. Men need sex for different reasons than women, to them it means, everything is ok, and everything will be alright, I am loved and good, and strong and all those little things we sometime forget to say. Cook your homemade meals, go out of your way to make him feel special, remember to spoil him the same way you would like to be spoiled, this way you will always have the love of your mate, just make sure you find one worthy of your company.

If that's true, then it's because they hold men to impossibly high standards (while rarely meeting those standards themselves).
If you ask a woman these days what she wants/needs in a man, she'll probably say "he needs to be very good-looking, over 6 feet tall, have an incredible physique, make loads of money, drive at least a BMW, AND have a great personality!"

Ladies, if you want these things in a man, YOU had better, then, be gorgeous, have perfect hair, have a slender-yet-curvy body, make good money yourself, be a sexual goddess, have a fantastic personality, never be nosy/nitpicking, etc. It goes without saying that if you think you deserve Mr. Perfect, you must be Mrs. Perfect.

Let's just get real. You're not gonna find perfection in a man... not even close. But that's okay, because you're far from perfect yourself. Deal in the real world, people, and find someone real.
You'll actually be happier for it.

First of all remember that statistics don't define you, nor a common race, you shape your own destiny despite what factors tell you. The reasons why women are single vary , there are many (divorced, busy lifestyle, independence, and so on), but the main reason is that they haven't found a suitable partner, bear in mind that nowadays couples live together without being married, I don't know if you'd call them "single". If you want to get married somebody then you will, don't let anybody change your mind if that's your goal, it's a good one and worth sticking to.

There could be a number of reasons. The woman got pregnant and the bf doesn't want to stick around and then it's harder to date when they have to take care of a child. The woman might decide that she's going to be independent and no one is going to weigh her down.. i have several friends who have their mind set on never getting married but that changes with time. Don't worry too much about not getting married in the future. Besides, more people are getting married for the wrong reasons nowadays.

In my experience it's been impossible, but then I have lousy taste in men. You seem like an intelligent thoughtful person. One of the reasons American women are single is that the American woman is motivated, sometimes working more hours than her significant other, and yet the men in America aren't stepping up to help out at all around the house. Why should we keep them around if we don't need their money, they don't help us clean, and they just want a built in maid and bed-mate.

Its because woman are just upping and going just because things aren't going perfectly their way. They don't respect men anymore they just go to war with them. Its all about club hopping with the girls now days no more family importants. You gotta let a man be the man and respect it and woman needs to be proud of the fact that they are a woman and take good care of their family.
