I think it exhibits the overall attitude that people do not like homosexuality. Even people who claim to accept it and gays themselves will use it to insult someone. They are either very ignorant about how they are using the word or they are saying gay is a bad thing.

Personally Im tired of hearing this is gay or that is gay. There was a guy at work who said it about 1000 times a day (no exxageration) and I got so sick of hearing it I finally told him he says it so much that he must be gay. He shutup after that and stopped saying it.

the term homophoia is an act of Propaganda against christians. its about demonizing an entire group of people which people are antichrist. i know that some people wear the label homophobe as a medal of honor. but its not about hate, though some get carried away. the true evil in america is the total NEWS media bastards that propagate "division" on purpose. they are the guilty ones for not showing the truth so people can make informed deciscions. FACT: sodomites die 30 years younger than the national average FACT: sodomites almost never have just one sex partner, but thousands FACT: sodomy is the # 1 way to get the disease of Hiv and then Aids this is not homopohobia, this is instruction in righteousness just remember how homophobia is used today do denegrate people with hate when people will fear "infected" people with disease, even in hypocricy to their own generation in other words, those that cry homophobia today against a real disease which kills 2 million people a year, will not cry demonization slander when a fake disease is propagated to segregate everyone. they will not use the same criteria to save all men, even though they themselves are disease-phobic. hell no, put me to instant death if i ever get aids while an orgy of rapists try to sodomize me. but fear of being sodomize is an actual threat to me, therefore i am a homophobe because gay rapists sodomites are always Gay. they are also criminals. very much like the stories in sodom and gomorah

Using the word "gay" as a pejorative adjective primarily serves to demonstrate the bigotry and ignorance of the speaker. It shows what an incredibly limited vocabulary they have.

All LGBT people should call such inconsiderate and hurtful people on such hate speech. Only then will we see it subside.

Language DOES impact society (just as society impacts language). As such, this use of the word "gay" is both a symptom and a causative factor for the widespread heterosexism and homophobia in our society. My friends all know how I feel about it, and all have stopped using it in my presence. Most have stopped using it period.

It pisses me off. I have told kids doing it, "What if someone uses your name to mean something bad?" Then I use their name in a sentence that way a couple times: "Oh, that homework's so John. The dog made John on the carpet." That helps them see it and makes them at least think about it.

My fellow students use the term "that's gay." And I've told them I dislike them saying that but it doesn't help. My older sister does it too (16). So now, I've resorted to calling something stupid, instead of others saying "That's gay.", I say "That's straight." Heheh.

Over the years I have been saddened to see what was once a happy word being twisted into meanings alien to its origins. I know that language must grow and progress, but the loss of the original meanings of the word serves to impoverish the language.

" no matter what euphemism you come up with for sodomy , people are going to percieve in time that it is wrong and use it as an expletive. "

no matter what euphemism you come up with for being black people are going to percieve in time that it is wrong and use it as an expletive.

no matter what euphemism you come up with for having red hair, people are going to percieve in time that it is wrong and use it as an expletive.

no matter what euphemism you come up with for Christianity, people are going to percieve in time that it is wrong and use it as an expletive.

Bigotry and intolerance are so easy, aren't they?

On a forum I frequent, some people were using "gay" pejoratively. I pointed out that this was offensive to a lot of straight people as well as gay people and the word has not been used in that way since by anyone. If people use it, tell them it is offensive. If they are reasonable people, they will stop using it.

My opinion is that that particular usage of the word "gay" is offensive and shouldn't be used, ever.

Frankly I could not care less. The meaning of words are ever evolving and changing. Gay didn't mean homosexual at one time either.
