i have sat with my legs crossed at the knee probably starting when i was around seven now i am fourty. i cross them every time i sit down, and always with the same leg right over left. eventually after a long period of crossing, my top leg gets numb. i have heard that crossing your legs can cause vein problems, back problems, and hip problems, i dont have any at all, but is this true that it is bad? do you cross your legs also? and are you aware it might be bad?

Crossing your legs can be a comfortable experience and many people do it when they relax or want to appear to be relaxed.

The downside of this habit is that in many cases circulation is reduced and can give rise to DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). This results in a clot being formed which can block an artery, give rise to a stroke or a heart attack.
If you do cross your legs, just ensure you only do it for very short periods. Women who are on the pill or have a family history of poor circulation, and who habitually cross their legs are at a higher risk than those not on the pill or without a family history of circulatory abnomalities.

my mom used to sit on her knees all the time... or with like one leg under her butt at least... even on the sofa. anyways, shes has had massive knee problems multiple surguries and nothing has really helped... he knees are still horrible and shes constantly in pain... i would try my best to stop sitting like that, even if you dont have any syptoms now, you probably will in the future.
