I have a 2003 Dodge Stratus. I just got it 4 months ago. The Malfunction Indicator Light came on and I took it into the shop. They said it was the thermostat and went ahead and put in a new one. 4 days later the light came back on. When I took it back in they said it was the same code as before and it was probably air in the line and it should go away. The light has come on 3 more times sence and after they checked the thermostat and found it to be fine they told me they do not know what is wrong. It seems to me the light comes on when I run my heater over 2. Any ideas what could be wrong?

It sounds to me like the thermostat is either not allowing the engine to get warm enough, or is too low a temperature. It may also be a faulty temperature sensor that is reading a bit lower than it should. When you turn on the heater, it cols the engine a bit more, and the car sets a code for too low an operating temperature!

This is going to sound crazy but my dad has a 2002 dodge truck and his light comes on if his gas cap isn't put on just right. Try adjusting the gas cap and see if this works.

Make sure they put in the correct temp thermostat.
Possible bad coolant temp sensor.

Have them change the actual sensor.
