Go to the Library and see if they have the original two volume set of ' THE WAY THINGS WORK ' and you may or may not enjoy learning how to make soap, vinegar a simple lathe and other things to bring civilization back from the edge in case the world goes down the tubes. Or you may want to read it just for the knowledge it contains and how to use what you learn. Enjoy.

I find that anything by Tom Robbins will do the trick when I can't find anything else to read. Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas is a funny book.

The Pretties, the Uglies, and The Traveling Pants series are good young adult novels that some adults find interesting to read, too.

Twilight and New Moon by Stephanie Meyer are good...erm. anything by Jaclyn Moriarty is good...she's got a few books out. There's this one called "Bass Ackwards and Belly Up" that's very good...a bit like an older Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, if you're into that.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, John Berendt. Best nonfiction book ever. You might not believe it isn't fiction. Go ahead and visit Savannah when you're done...it's beautiful.

Well if you like science fiction but not to crappy, try Anna to the Infinite Power. It's about this girl, Anna Zimmerman Hart, who is really a clone of a great physicist. Her not real mom carried her cloned eggs and gave birth to her. She gets these migranes where she things that happened to the real Anna Zimmerman. It's a really awesome story that actually could happen.
