I have several bills/uncollected debt affecting my credit report. I have a decree that states he is responsible for half but I know a decree has no affect with creditors (or does it?). I do not want to pay it and let him get away with no responsibility. How do I hold him accountable?

Either take him back to divorce court or sue him in small claims court for money owed and future payment. Youre right in that the decree means absolutelt nothing to the creditors. A divorce judge can order him to follow the decree or have the money garnished from his wages automatically if needbe. I know this is alot of work ands is really a pain to do it but you do have the law on your side. Go after him and good luck

You can take him back to court or small claims court as others are saying, but bottom line you can't get blood from a turnip. When its all said and down creditors don't care, even if you don't hear from them-they will be back! If the loan is in your name it effects your credit no matter what, even if ex ordered to pay. It WILL be on your credit. Know this from experience, my judge awarded my ex "our" truck that had loan in my name. Every payment was late for 12 months nothing nobody could do except harp on me! What do these judges think sometimes? Finally got my situation taken care of cause ex illegally sold my truck, since my name and bank still on title. cops finally took care of it. even though my credit is RUINED!

I sent a copy of my decree to those creditors after I had paid my half. Not heard a word since.

Pay off your half and then take him to court for the other, if he is not paying his part.
