I am so shocked after reading some UTI related questions and answers.
Cranberry juice or pills are only good to prevent UTI because of natural substance called D-mannose in them! but when you already have UTI, which is bacterias in your bladder, the cranberry juice or pills, will only create acid environment, which is perfect for baterias to multiply!
I had 20 UTI's past 2 years and two of them became Kidney infections because I was drinking (unsweetened) Cranberry juice like crazy. Also, please! We do not get UTI's because we wipe in wrong ways! I became obssesively clean after 2 UTIs. Personal hygiene has nothing to do with re-occuring UTI. It is those mutated baterias that antibiotics can't kill anymore. Please ladies, take good care of yourselves. If you want to ask me questions, I will gladly help you with my experiences!

All good advice ( "reality check") You did miss one important issue.
Always wear cotton underwear. never silk , synthetics or satin as these fabrics tend to spread bacteria like in a smear campaign! Cotton is absorbent and is much safer and hygenic.

When you guys have sex, depending on position, his penis is pressing up against your urethra and pushing bacteria into it. This will make your UTI worse. That's why you shouldn't have sex during a UTI. Also, some antibiotics can kind of cancel out the effects of birth control. That's another good reason, eh? AND It's NOT contagious.

Whenever I get a UTI, I take 6 cranberry pills 3-4 times a day and drink TONS of water and it always goes away....I was getting waaaay too many to keep going to the dr, so I tried it and it worked. I have never had one spread to my kidneys either....and now I haven't had one in a few years!!! I have done this about 6 times in the past and it has always worked like a charm!

Sorry to hear you've had such a terrible time with UTIs. :-( If you haven't already, may I suggest you see a urologist and request that he/she perform a cystoscopy to look into your bladder. It is possible that you have a chronic bladder condition such as interstitial cystitis that makes you so terribly susceptible to UTIs. Good luck to you! :-)

I was just wanting to say that you should go to the restroom IMMEDATELY before AND after sex to prevent uti's & bladder infections.

You are PARTIALLY correct.

Wiping fecal matter (which chock full of bacteria) into or near the urethral opening can and DOES cause urinary tract infections.

Furthermore, wearing tight clothing can cause and/or exacerbate an existing infection.

Not urinating after sex can cause it.

Wiping back to front during your period can cause it.

Being generally unhygienic (as in not bathing regularly) can do it.

Not urinating regularly can do it.

Nice try though. Regrettably, most people with neither read this nor listen to what we have to say.
