I'm 17 weeks and I've been making my boyfriend put his ear on my belly to try to hear it, but he doesn't know if what he's hearing is the baby's heartbeat. Is it even possible to hear it?

I'm reading an old book.. like from the 80's that says by the 5th month "the father can hear the baby's heartbeat by placing an ear against the abdomen." is it wrong then??

My husband tried, but he could never hear. We bought something for $20 at Target that let us hear once I was about 28 weeks. There are so many noises from digestion, and blood flowing that are in your tummy, and thick layers of uterus and muscle that I think it's impossible.

Unfortunately your boyfriend will not be able to hear the baby's heartbeat until the baby is born and he can put his head on the baby's chest rather than your abdomen. The heart beat is so fast and quiet and it is surrounded by layers of amniotic fluid, uterine wall, and other bodily tissues. Being able to hear it without a doppler (which is what they use at the doctor's office to listen to the heartbeat) would be impossible. But rest assured he'll be able to hear it in just a few months! Good luck!

Very wrong! The only things you could use to possibly hear the baby's heart beat are doppler, ultrasound and I have heard a stethescope (after 7 months). I think that many years ago they figured the pulse in your tummy was the baby's heart beat, but it's actually yours usually. That's why a doctor sometimes has to search when using a doppler because they find yours quicker. Good Luck though!!

specific, you may. the least puzzling thank you to recognize the version between yours and your infant's beat, is the lots greater value (approximately two times your guy or woman, or 2 beats a 2d) at which the infant's heart is going whilst in comparison with yours and your human beings. slightly one's heart could be detected by using ultrasound from approximately 9 weeks, and gets progressively greater louder because it grows (and it grows quickly!). From 20 weeks an looking forward to mom can hear to it with a stethoscope, somebody else can hear at once with the ear against the tummy. I listened to my spouse's abdomen sometimes for the period of the two her pregnancies. Your buddy might ought to attempt countless places inspite of the incontrovertible fact that, as your infant is continuously shifting around.

I doubt he would be able to at all. Your tummy and your own heartbeat and the bloodflow of the placenta and everything going on at once.....I don't think you can hear that with your naked ear.

I don't thing you can just hear it through your stomach. There is way too much between you and the baby-your skin, fat, uterus, amniotic fluid, etc...

You cannot feel it or hear it ... you can feel it kicking and moving though .... if your stomach was thin enough to hear it ... your baby would get hurt...
