I can't get Konus to answer my email or answer the phone at305-592-5500. What is the filter for and where does it go. The finder scope has no red dot and is only has one end no back sight.
The tripod bracket has 3 small wing nuts and is hard to work with in the dark and isn't the best time to use it is at night?
The unit I have is a #1780-N Konusmotor-500 0114 F.500

I am guessing the wing nuts you talk about are the ones holding the triangular tray in the middle of the tripod. This is a very common design. It's best not to completely unscrew the wing nuts and detatch the tray every time you put the telescope away. Just loosen them to collapse the tripod inward a bit. The exception to this would be transporting in the car of course, in which case you'd want to remove the optical tube as well.

If the finder scope uses a red dot, it should have an on/off switch somewhere, and it should also need batteries so check these.

The filter with this telescope is a lunar filter. It's to use incase the moon is too bright. It goes where it fits. Most filters, with the exception of solar filters, screw on to the eyepiece. Some screw on to the top of it, some screw on to the bottom of it and fit down the barrel.

Some filters, such as solar filters, go over the opening of the telescope optical tube.

You need to seek out your local amateur astronomy club for help. It would be next to impossible for me to help remotely in print and without seeing your equipment or what you are doing with it.
