I just had my second birthing of swordtails in my tank. The first time I counted 22. All were lost to predation. I got a nursery now and caught all I saw. ( 9 ) I want to know how old the fry need to be before I release them into the tank. I don't want them to be an appetizer for the others.

That depends on the size of your other fish. Most fish will eat anything that will fit into there mouth. Make sure you have plenty of plants to hide in. They have a floating plant made for fry to hide in. It works great. You could try letting a few into the tank and see whos after them first.. if they are eaten immediatley, wait another week. Good luck, ..

They must both be big enough to avoid being eaten by the others in the tank and be strong enough to not get sucked up through your filtration system. Just do some trial and error and see what size tends to have the most success. Good Luck!

do not positioned too plenty nutrients in by way of fact it is going to finally end up messing up the water high quality and killing the fish, i might weigh down flakes on your arms till they are relatively small, and then positioned that little quantity of nutrients in, basically a pair overwhelmed flakes, and that they could decide for them, if not you should purchase brine shrimp, yet i might say merely weigh down flakes and dab them underwater so a number of them sink. don't experience too undesirable in the event that they die although, fry might properly be very perplexing to be saved alive whilst youthful and fragile, sturdy success.

Big enough not to fit in the adults mouths. If you feed them a better quality food and give them space they will grow faster then not so good food and being cramped in that breeder box.
