From then on, it's up for debate. After the US, Russia, China, UK, in power terms, your mind thinks of Japan and Germany, but they're not really 100% sovereign - their militaries aren't allowed to operate freely (influenced/occupied by the US, UK and NATO as a whole).

The head of the Federal Reserve in the US arguably has the biggest influence on the world economy; then the heads of the World Bank and IMF, and Peter Mandelson, in charge of trade in the EU, the world's largest trading bloc. Bill Gates and the heads of Lockheed Martin, British Aerospace, the CIA, FBI, MI5, MI6.....it's hard to put them in order :-D

But I've been talking about power. Mandela and Madonna can be as influential, without being as powerful, as the above.

EDIT: The Oxford English Dictionary refers to power as "the capacity to influence others"...hmmm.....

Very debatable. Could be a world leader (ie Geroge Bush), businessman (ie Bill Gates) or cultural and social influencer (ie the Pope). You have to deside yourself what you consider powerful.
