My girlfriend had to take the morning after pill last month, about a week after she had what seemed to be a normal but very early period. She was due to have one in the first week of Jan some 3-4 weeks after but she didnt so at the end of that week we did 2 pregnancy tests which were both negative.

If her normal period was due it would of happened almost 2 weeks ago but she has had nothing at all.

Is this normal and is she likely to have her next period on time?

the morning after pill can bring your period earlier or later, make it heavier or lighter... it messes it up slightly. Especially if she is on the pill already.

The morning after pill is a very high does of hormones.

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago.. I spoke to a nurse, she said I am ok.

Just monitor your periods for the next few months.

Its nice that you care.. bless ya!

Hope this helps.

The emergency contraceptive pill really messes up your periods, its a very high dose of hormones.

It is quite normal to have very erratic periods after taking it.

However, if she is concerned she could go the local family planning clinic for some advice. However, if she's done 2 negative pregnancy tests I'd probably say she should just wait and see for a couple more weeks.

Just to clarify that she took the morning after pill then 1 week later had a heavy period, then hasn't had a period since and its been 5 weeks since her last bleed?

The morning after pill will trigger her period to happen early or late. It's just a mega-dose of the same hormones contained in regular birth control. Once it passes your system, your period starts. I stopped taking my regular BC and my period started again in 3 days when it wasn't due for 2 more weeks.

So now you have to start counting her next period by the early one. Her cycle has changed it's "normal" time to the time it started last time.

But Plan B is only 87% or so effective so she may want to take another test or 2 just the same to make sure.

Planned Parenthood has more info on the side effects on their website:http://www.plannedparenthood.org/birth-control-pregnancy/emergency-contraception-4363%20.htm
Especially read the part on after taking.

She may want to see a clinician since if it wasn't effective; she will have to have an abortion.

The morning after pill is a very high dosage of birth control... since birth control pills will affect your period, I would say what is happening is normal and it may affect her periods for the next few months.

Yep perfectly normal, they should have explained that to her . . they expect you to have a period in the next 2/3 week after taking it, if you dont then it could suggest it didnt work . . but she did so she is fine. it really messes them up for quite a while it may tale a few months to get back to normal bu that is normal

Your GF ingested a chemical that effectively and completely messed up the natural balance of things. Chances are she will probably take up to 3 months to get back to normal.

If she (and you) don't want to spend the rest of your lives worrying every single time you have sex, use a more reliable form of birth control; I recommend hormonal contraceptives (shot, pill, ring, patch).
