First tell them verbally. Then send a registered letter informing them not to contact you at work. If they continue they are breaking the law and you may sue them.

G"Day,

There is one way to get them to stop. Pay $1.00 off the money. That changes the amount they are chasing, here in Australia they then have to re-lodge a claim with the courts for the new amount.
Some companies will not pay the $$$ to re-lodge the claim and are happy to get some sort of payment.

You would be surprised how quick the amount goes down. I have major bill problems at present due to the company I worked with went belly up just before XMAS. So I do understand that it is hard to find cash at present.
At least here in Australia with have support unlike the USA.

So try paying $1.00 and see what happens.

(1)bill collectors r retained by collection agency. (2) the collection agency is bound by legal framework of the concerned country, under which the bill collectors can't harass or give any unsolicited calls to the clients.(3) if such thing happens, it leads to mental harassment & cause severe agony & trauma to the client concerned.(4) for which u can approach court of law under above plea.(5) but 1st of all u must give them a written undertaking claiming ur poor financial condition , asking for a specific time period gap, which in turn will give u an upperhand in the judicial avenue.

How about a legit answer. Write them a letter asking them to cease calling your employment. Send it certified mail, fax it. Do it all. Check out the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. Check out section 805.3 COMMUNICATION WITH THE CONSUMER GENERALLY. Without the prior consent of the consumer given directly to the debt collector or the express permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, a debt collector may not communicate with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt --
at the consumer's place of employment if the debt collector knows or has reason to know that the consumer's employer prohibits the consumer from receiving such communication.

Tell them that they have jeopardized your job and that if you don't have a job, you can't pay. Send them written notice to stop calling you at work or you will lose your job and then bring suit for lost wages against them. If you used your work number on the bills application and not your home number, then that would be legal for them to call you there. Change your contact number with them.

Tell them, better still, send them a certified letter stating that you job forbids those type of calls and they must either contact you at home or only in writing. State that you will report them to the FTC if they do not comply.

According to the Fair Debt Collection Act, they can call your job UNLESS you write them a cease and desist letter and mail it to their offices. Then it becomes illegal to call your job and you're protected by the federal law.

Most will stop calling if you tell them that your employer does not allow for personal or private business calls, but that's not law...
