Here in Australia charities are not subject to fringe benefits tax.

The people I know who work for charities - have to go to heaps of upmarket functions.

A charity is recognized as a non profit organization and sometimes aren't taxed as such. Different rules for different places so talk to the levels of government in your area to get the facts.

The most obvious is no tax to pay on income and of course you can apply for grants.
