Operating system, internet service provider who will provide software to connect to the internet, a browser (internet explorer, foxfire, Opera, etc.) After that, you're on your own.

You need either a modem (For Dialup) or a network card (For high speed DSL or Cable).
Most operating systems E.G. LINUX/Mac/Windows provide the tools necessary to make the connection. Some internet service providers providers provide additional software.
