it is getting really hard to play

If its old, chuck it, if its new, find the part where the really smooth part(bottom) meets the rougher part(top) then slightly above that push lighty on the reed, so you don't break it, but bend it slightly, this will break in the reed, making it easier to play on.

your reed is to hard. Buy a softer one. I play clarinet and I'm supposed to playing on a size 4 but I play on a 3 1/4

Buy a weaker reed, you could try soaking the one you have in water before you play. Seriously I used to walk around w/ it in my mouth for an hour before I played.
