Why would a company pay their employee monthly?

It depends on the employer. In the past, the US military paid their soldiers monthly. Getting paid only once a month makes it difficult to budget for if you are not careful. If you spend it too quick without considering your budget, you could find yourself halfway through the month with no money left.

Many companies pay their employees on a monthly basis, so it's nothing unusual. Other companies pay weekly, and some pay bi-weekly (every 2 weeks).

It's totally up to the individual company how they choose to pay their employees, and it's up to the employee to effectively budget themselves appropriately.

Now if you're used to being paid on weekly basis and are now going to be paid monthly, then it's an adjustment you'll just have to make.
