So back to your question Air date Jan.12,2003 they Phoebe vanquished the''doppelganger'' (by) kicking her butt then stabbing her with a dagger which she in gulf ed in flames still having time to try to stop Cole from getting the Nexus.

I believe that Cole killed doppelgange or Kaia, she wanted to take the place of Phoebe as his love interest and impersonated as Phoebe during the show.
