Some many people want what someone else has without even working for it---mostly. I see that a lot on TV. It's not just material, it's people. Someone wants to be noticed by that parent or siblings---if not a mate.

No, but it is self-destructive and destructive to others as well. There are several emotions that are at least equally self-destructive like guilt, shame, self-loathing...

I dont' think jealousy is the most self destructive. It is certainly destructive. It can destroy all types of relationships, as well as self-esteem, and self-worth. I think guilt is the most self-destructive emotion. Once you feel guilty, it eats away at you and won't let go. Guilt rarely goes away.

Fear is the most self-destructive of emotions & is the root cause of all negative emotions. Jealousy stems from the fear of losing what's "mine;" envy stems from the fear of never attaining wealth to the extent of my peers; greed stems from the fear of going without; hatred stems from fear of that which is different from the norm, or the "status quo." Even guilt is the product of a fear that I somehow didn't measure up, whether my expectations (or those of a loved one) were realistic or not.
