I am going back to work. Is it too late to call the doctor and ask for more time? I'm getting way to used to this paid domestic lifestyle!

Awww, beg off a few more weeks. After all, that is a major surgery and you don't want to overdo yourself too quickly. Be a bum. Enjoy it.
(unless going back to work would mean you would be resuming regular correspondence with some of the regulars. ..ahem!)

If your doctor released you and the employer is expecting you back, I don't think you have a choice, unless you want to live an unpaid domestic lifestyle.
