Freedom, to me, is the right to be you.
Having the courage to stand up for what you believe, no matter the consequences or the challenge.
Freedom is living with courage, passion, and love.
Nothing means a thing, without freedom.

A little background first: I am a 56 yr old male, born and raised in the USA. At 19 I joined the NY Army National Guard as a private and retired after 26 yrs as a captain from the US Army. I was married for 30 yrs and I helped raise 4 daughters.
Freedom has a very deep meaning for me because this is the only country in the world where the citizens are truly free. You can not find another country on Earth where people are allowed to do anything they want as long as it doesn't harm anyone else, then you've broken the law and need to be punished.
Freedom means I can go where I want, when I want, how I want, with whom I want and do what I want. I may go to a Lutheran Church today and go to a Baptist church tomorrow and a Muslim Mosque the next day without reprisal or fear.
I may read anything anytime written by anyone. I may join any party or association. Even ones with names like The US Nazi party. I point this out as an illustration. There is nothing that could make me join something like that. See? I can't be made to do that yet I wouldn't try to stop someone from doing that if that's what they wanted to do.
There are very many people today - especially young people - that truly do not know what freedom means to them in this country, if they could go to another country even for a week and attempt to do the things they do here they would see and understand.
Freedom is so precious to me because I know what the cost has been. Literally millions of Americans, men and women, have died for all of us to keep this nation and it's ideals and it's people free.

Freedom is the right to self-determination. It's paid for with the blood of our young, our peers, and our ancestors. Freedom is the most precious thing, besides life that we have. And the best part of it is? We have freedom even if we aren't citizens of the USA.

In a social parlance, freedom is in fact liberty. Liberty is that freedom we have, to make our choices and act upon it without hindering the same liberty of another person.

Water protection - Running water for showers, toilets, washing dishes, clothes, and drinking water.
Electricity - To illuminate the night, run my computer, TV, and provide cool air & heat.
Transportation - Safe means of transportation on roads, trains, planes, and ships.
Protection of personal belongings with security to plan into the future.
If this comes with the cost of squishing some personal freedoms like prohibiting murder, theft, rape, taxation, and cell phone monitoring ... well it's worth the price

Freedom is independance, allowing one to be able to choose how to lead his/her own life, and should be availible to all people. Everyone should have their own right to be free, rather than to live as a puppet under dictated actions.
