If I understand the question, you are asking whether we like books or movies best. I enjoy books most. Books seem to be more thorough in developing the plot, whereas movies sometimes skip parts or even change parts for the makers reasons.

The original quote has been around for a long time, so I really don't remember where it started. Now it's used quite frequently.
