several time i've been online and my computer shuts off and then comes back on. I have AVG and Windows Defender. Is there anything else I need to protect my computer?

It sounds like you have a system problem, not a virus. The usual causes for random shutdowns are:
>Overheating triggers auto-shutdown to protect the CPU;
>Memory module going bad;
>Power supply going bad.

It's unlikely to be down to the software running on your computer.
It is most likely a hardware problem.
The most common culprit in these cases is the power supply. If you have installed a new graphics card, the computer might need more power than your Power Supply Unit can provide.
Alternatively, your Power Supply Unit may be faulty, or you may just need a power surge protector.
I would suggest getting a new, higher rated power supply - at least 400watts - in either case, and making sure you have a surge protector. Also, unless you have a surge protector that you can plug your modem telephone leads into, I would recommend disconnecting your modem during thunderstorms as a precaution.
Hope This Helps

If you have the 'submit report' function it would come back as an unidentified driver error.
This is incredibly hard to track down.

Go to control panel and system
choose hardware and device manager.
Basically, go through each and every item listed (expand the 'plus' signs) and right click then choose update driver on EVERYTHING. Allow it to search the internet for the drivers as well.
It took me 2 months before mine stopped doing this.
I still dont know what exactly caused it or why.
Its something to do with the graphics and/or monitor. At least thats what the windows report eventually came back with.

Good Luck

i'm shying faraway from the considered it being a warmth difficulty, because i imagine in case you had a foul CPU FAN or power grant fan, then it would want to overheat swifter than 10-11 days. I believe the above so that you could study the factors interior for any damaged capacitors and such. seem for darkish brown spot on the solder factors. apart from that, verify for viruses. in case you could't confirm any issues, evaluate doing a equipment restoration back to previously this began happening.

Could be a few things, does it shut down completely. If so it could be overheating, check if your fans are blocked, etc. Check the processor and video card heat sinks are not clogged and fans working. If it is reseting to desktop it could be loads also. Ie corrupt files etc. Check for spyware and defrag and also do a boot time defrag, need any more help email me.
