Reagan is a good guess, but he had experience in CA before the presidency...I am more looking toward Abe Lincoln on this one

it could go both ways.. it could end up that they aren't savvy enough for the political maneuvers that come with a presidency.. or it could be that the system hasn't perverted them and they will be a president less about politics and more about doing the right thing... I think you would have to see the person and assess them to know if it would help or hurt them.

P.S. I'm not sure if hell just froze over.. but I actually gave shiraz a thumbs up on this one o.O

You mean Ronald Reagan. To answer your question of course they could, that's what cabinets are for, experience in different areas of world politics. Most Presidents have to be briefed about some issues they never were even aware existed. There is no substitute for integrity, fairness and character and that is what is needed to become a good leader. A good leader inspires those around them, not drags them down.

Of course they could. The only requirements are 35 and a natural born citizen and as long as they meet that I think any and all should feel free to apply for the job.
Just because one has been a Senator for only a few years makes them more worthy of the job, because they havent yet sunk to the level of corruption as many other Congressmen and women have.

Sure. Of Luxembourg. If the US was not a significant world power (or chose to not be), it would not matter as much.

Our President probably has more responsibility than anyone else in the world. An inexperienced person would get metaphorically eaten alive by the pressures of that responsibility.

Yes and no. Someone without a history in politics may not have as many special interests in their pockets or on the line, but on the other hand, it takes political knowledge (whether gained in formal politics or in private bureaucracies) to actually accomplish things once in office.

Sure - they just assemble great advisers. I'm an independent leaning Dem right now. I voted GOP 40% of the time till the GOP got in bed with the Religious Right.
